Demetrus Coonrod is a passionate community leader and committed advocate for the residents of Chattanooga’s District 9. Coonrod’s appointment in 2017 is a culmination of her years of civic service in her district and surrounding communities in Chattanooga.
The Councilwoman previously served as the President of the Eastdale Neighborhood Association and pushed for numerous projects, including long-awaited infrastructure improvements to the Wilcox Tunnel. Outside of her district, Councilwoman Coonrod served the broader Chattanooga community as Vice Chairwoman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, a board member for Causeway, a member of the Community Development Advisory Board, and a Sportsbarn board member.
Councilwoman Coonrod is a Chattanooga local, having grown up in East Chattanooga and graduating from Chattanooga High School in 1993. The first-generation college graduate earned associate and bachelor's degrees in sociology from Chattanooga State Community College in 2012 and from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2015. Councilwoman Coonrod was also previously a local business owner.
